1. What is the difference between Subsidized and Unsubsidized Housing?


Subsidized Housing is government-assisted housing where the amount of rent paid is determined by the tenant’s income and not by the size or type of accommodation. People with low-income pay 30% of their income towards rent, and the state or federal government pays the difference between this amount and the actual costs of the housing.


Unsubsidized Housing is housing that has a set rent that is not based on the tenant’s income.



2. Is the Intermediate Care Facility surveyed by State Agencies?


Department of Health and Department of Public Welfare survey on an annual basis.



3. Are all Waiver Services subject to income limitations?


Yes, similar to County Assistance Guidelines.



4. What is the age requirement to apply for an Erie Independence House Apartment?


Head of household must be at least 18 years of age and a person with a mobility impairment that requires the accessibility features of the apartment.



5. Who sets the income limits for Erie Independence House Apartments?


Total family income limits must fall within the income limits established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; published annually in the Code of Federal Regulations.



6. What is the age requirement to be eligible for admission into the Intermediate Care Facility for Persons with Other Related Conditions?


An individual must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible for admission into the Intermediate Care Facility for Persons with Other Related Conditions.



7. Do all individuals in the Intermediate Care Facility for Persons with Other Related Conditions need to participate in active programming?


Yes all individuals must participate in active programming (ie Self Care, Personal Assistance Management, Self Help, Daily Living Skills etc.).



8. What is the age requirement to be eligible for the Pennsylvania Department of Aging Waiver Program?


An individual must be at least 60 years of age to be eligible for the Pennsylvania Department of Aging Waiver Program.



9. What is the age requirement to be eligible for the COMMCARE Waiver Program?


An individual must be at least 21 years of age to be eligible for the COMMCARE Waiver Program.
